Framing My Surroundings

Arvin Dayao

Framed in this picture is a pink hibiscus (pistil hidden) from Saipan, a commonplace flower found all over the island. Hibiscus are a common flower throughout tropical regions in which they thrive. The main defining features of a hibiscus are their large petals and exaggerated anatomy with a large pistol rising from the middle, although not shown in the picture. Within Saipan, the hibiscus is a common past time for kids as the juices from the flower may be used to make bubbles. Surprisingly enough, the hibiscus also is versatile in its uses; they can be made into paper and ropes as well as food and drinks (Wikipedia, Ref. 27,28,29). Although it is only a flower, the hibiscus is proven to have numerous practical uses in our day to day lives. Thus, it is in our best interests to preserve these flowers for future generations.
