Did you ever wonder why U.S. flag has stars and stripes? Why the flag contains the colors red, white, and blue? Also, who made that flag? Well, let’s dig into the meaning of our national flag! First of all, the 50 white stars on the flag represents the 50 states, and the 13 stripes represents the original thirteen colonies of the early United States. Additionally, the colors of our flag represents the following: “red, white and blue were chosen as the colors to represent valor (red), liberty and purity (white), and justice and loyalty (blue). ” This flag is known to be first made by Betsy Ross, the seamstress. Historically, it is known that George Washington have approached her and asked her to make our national flag. However, as Hawaii and Alaska was later added to our country as the 49th and 50th state, our flag was newly designed by Robert G. Heft, a 17-year old student. Interestingly, this was for his class project, yet this flag designed by Heft is the one we still use today. Our flag that we can easily find around us holds meaning that connects our history to the modern days.
