Dreamcatcher

Lyzelle Castillo

For at least once, you have probably seen a dreamcatcher hanged in a souvenir shop or in a porch, but have you ever wondered why most people have it? Dreamcatchers are believed to have originated from Native Americans and are traditionally handmade. Since it is associated with the Native American culture, many people believed that an old spiritual protector for a tribe was constantly in fear as the members of her tribe began to leave and move farther away. As a result, she handcrafted a “sacred hoop” that resembles a dreamcatcher to mystically watch over the members of her tribe who left. Furthermore, dreamcatchers are believed to have the ability to protect individuals from having nightmares, hence the name “dreamcatcher.” As of now, it is extremely difficult to find an authentic dreamcatcher as most people craft it as a mere souvenir.
