The Rubik’s Cube, a puzzle designed by Hungarian Architect Erno Rubik, was invented to be just that, a toy. It was designed in 1974 and originally called the Magic Cube. Erno Rubik took around three months to solve the cube but was the first ever person to do so (he was its inventor after all). However, the cube symbolizes something “surprising and deeply emotional,” according to the Smithsonian. Though Rubik himself initially thought the puzzle was unsolvable, he proved himself wrong. The cube is a landmark revolution in the puzzle toy industry and sparked the youth (indirectly) to find a way through life’s puzzles.
