Patterns – LJV

Patterns, patterns are everywhere! They can be found in nature, such as in the sand patterns that naturally occur in sand dunes, animal coat patterns, and snowflakes. These patterns can occur due to numerical sequences that naturally come out in inanimate objects, like the Fibonacci sequence, or can occur in biological organisms, such as genes encoding patterns in animal coats. However, humans have also incorporated patterns in objects of our own making, such as in clothing and tools. Patterns in these cases serve purposes of aesthetic enjoyment or actual function. For instance, the lattice-type patterns present in the basket above serve a purpose of making the basket less permeable, and will result in it being able to accomplish its job of containing things more effectively.
