Although onions are probably one of the most significant ingredients when cooking, they are one of the most difficult plants to grow in a home garden as well. Bulb onions are extremely sensitive to the amount of sunlight it receives. Some onion bulbs may require only a 12-hour exposure to sunlight while some may require a 16-hour or more exposure to sunlight. As a result, most gardeners have a hard time finding the perfect place to plant their onion bulb in which it can grow healthily. Lastly, have you ever noticed that some onion bulbs have flowers while others don’t? Weather plays a huge role in the flowering of an onion bulb. Some onions experience cold weather faster than other onions allowing them to sustain flowering more. In short, all onions produce flowers; some simply blossom first depending on the weather of their environment.
