Happy birthday! This is one of the most exciting phrases one might hear, but only ONCE a year. Interestingly, although everyone is aware of the their birthdays, no one is fully aware of the history of birthday. To begin with, the tradition of birthday didn’t start until calendars were made, and the first person to have celebrated their birthday is believed to be the Egyptian pharaohs. This dates back all the way to 3000B.C.E.! In fact, the tradition of celebrating birthdays have started even before Jesus was born! This day, which was believed to be the “birth” of the gods, was celebrated by lighting candles and giving gifts among friends and families. This tradition that is recorded in our history continues on till this day, where we celebrate that one day (once in a year!) where we light candles on a delicious cake and receive gifts from our loved ones.
