The phenomenon of rainbows has always been one that captivates the imaginations of humans. Countless cultural myths and traditions are derived from the rainbow, chief among them the Irish belief that a Leprechaun’s pot of gold rests at the end of a rainbow. Rainbows symbolize many things for humans such as hope, wonder, and unity. However, despite all the bombastic tales and postulations regarding rainbows, rainbows actually have a relatively mundane scientific cause. While rain is falling from clouds (or immediately after a rain shower), light is reflected and refracted so that the color spectrum of visible light is displayed.
